DBaaS

About

The database platform provides a unified and scalable environment for provisioning, managing, and operating diverse database systems. It enables application and database teams to work across multiple environments with minimal manual intervention while maintaining consistent governance, security, and operational standards.

Techstack

  • Docker
  • Azure Cloud
  • MSSQL
  • PostgreSQL
  • Oracle
  • Java EE (Jakarta)
  • Spring Boot
  • Java 11-21

Adopting a database platform helps organizations accelerate service delivery, improve scalability, and make database operations easier to standardize across teams. By automating routine processes, engineering resources can be redirected from repetitive administration to higher-value work.

The project focused on modernizing a suite of RESTful APIs by migrating from Java EE (Jakarta) to Spring Boot, upgrading from Java 11 to 21. Key services – Postgres (Adapter), OMA, and IaC – were refactored for better modularity and cloud readiness. We containerized the services with Docker, deployed to the public cloud, and established full CI/CD pipelines. A major milestone was upgrading authentication from basic auth to OAuth 2.0, improving security and compliance. The result is a unified DBaaS layer that standardizes database operations across technologies and deployment environments, providing a common foundation for automation, governance, and modernization.

Platform Capabilities

The platform brings together the core capabilities required to manage the database lifecycle — from provisioning and migration to security, recovery, and enterprise integration.

Self-Service & Lifecycle. Provision, configure, and decommission databases, instances, schemas, and clusters through an API and service catalog. Automate connectivity and environment setup.

Migration & Data Mobility. Assess and migrate Oracle to PostgreSQL and SQL Server to public cloud environments. Support cloning, import/export, and logical data movement between environments.

Security & Access Governance. Manage users, roles, and grants with PAM integration. Execute controlled and audited SQL/DDL operations across managed databases.

Operations & Resilience. Automate backups, point-in-time restore, and archiving. Track long-running operations and platform health through standardized workflows.

Enterprise Integration. Integrate with CMDB, change management, and incident workflows. Support blackout windows, notifications, and enterprise ITSM processes.

Multi-Engine Automation. Provide one API across PostgreSQL, SQL Server, and Oracle, spanning on-premises and public cloud environments, with pluggable adapters, infrastructure automation, and CI/CD.
